[Central Asia] Tajikistan Agriculture

Image
Hello, I hope you have a great day. Today, we will summarize the state of agriculture in Tajikistan. 1. General Agriculture - In Tajikistan, 73.8% of the labor force is engaged in agriculture, yet agricultural imports constitute only about 20% of the GDP. Thus, the economic contribution of agriculture is relatively small compared to the number of people involved. - The share of agriculture in GDP has declined rapidly from 23.5% in 2014 to 19.8% in 2019. Poverty rates are notably high among farmers, with 75% of the poor and 72% of the extremely poor residing in rural areas. - Additionally, many men migrate to countries like Russia for work, resulting in 75% of agricultural workers being women. 2. Farmland - All farmland in Tajikistan is state-owned and is distributed as agricultural enterprises, dehkan farms (Dehkan or Dehqan), and small plots allotted to households. - Dehkan farms originated from collective farms (kolkhozes) during the Soviet era, distributed to farmers as cooperative ...

Statistics indicate that the GDP growth rate for the first half of 2021 was 8.7%, compared to 3.5% for the same period in 2020. - In the first quarter of 2020, remittances from Russia decreased by 22% compared to the same period in the previous year. Although 60% of the labor force is employed in agriculture, the agricultural sector contributed approximately $1.61 billion, or 19.8%, to the GDP, which totaled around $8.12 billion in 2019. - Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in Russia, many workers have returned to Tajikistan, significantly impacting the economy and employment. - Major agricultural products include cotton, grains, fr...

[Central Asia] Exploring Tajikistan, a New City Adventure

Image
Hello! It's great to see you back with a new story. Today's tale takes us on a journey to Tajikistan. I visited Tajikistan back in 2022 for a business trip and was truly mesmerized by the sights of this new city. Tajikistan is a Central Asian country that gained independence in 1991 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It spans an area of 143,100 km² with a population of 10,194,363, predominantly comprised of the Tajik ethnic group of Iranian descent. Its capital is Dushanbe. Most of our visit was centered around the capital, Dushanbe, and we explored various places through our provincial business excursions. Below is a photo taken in the region where the Nurek Dam is located. The scenery was remarkably pristine, with minimal pollution and beautiful natural landscapes. During our trip, which primarily focused on agriculture, we visited several farms for inspections. One memorable experience was visiting a grape farm, where the grapes were incredibly sweet and sizabl...
